Research area
- Model selection uncertainty in structural analysis and risk assessment
- Seismic collapse and risk assessment of seismically isolated buildings and bridges
- Impact of pulse-like ground motions on structural performance
- Nonlinear modeling and analysis of seismic isolation systems
Ya-Heng Yang earned his PhD in Civil and Environmental Engineering from UC Berkeley, focusing on model selection uncertainty in structural analysis and the collapse assessment of seismically isolated buildings to enhance the predictive capability of performance-based earthquake engineering frameworks. His dissertation, “Model Selection Uncertainty: From Collapse Assessment of Seismically Isolated Buildings,” explores these topics in depth.
He received his MS from National Taiwan University, where he studied frictional-pendulum bearing systems under pulse-like ground motions through analytical modeling and shake table tests.
Currently, Ya-Heng is a postdoctoral researcher with a keen interest in advancing uncertainty quantification in seismic design and infrastructure resilience. His research focuses on yield-displacement-based seismic design procedures, utilizing uncertainty quantification tools to evaluate their reliability and sensitivity.
